E3 2011: CD Projekt/gog.com Pre-E3 conference

We are starting off today with one of the pre-E3 2011 conferences from CD Projekt/gog.com.

They start off with telling us that The Witcher 2 has sold 400,000+ in it’s first week and that they are proud of the great press reaction they have received. They have noted that as of v1.1, they are completely DRM-free.

With the next patch, v1.2, they will have over 50 improvements including balance tweaks, binding any function of the game to any key, fixing an exploit which allowed people to get a lot of money quickly and easily, etc. All Previously released DLC will be included in v1.2 as well.

They will also have brand new DLC coming out, Barbers and Coiffeuses which allows you to change your hairstyle. There is 5 brand new hairstyles including Geralt’s one from the Witcher 1. They also noted that for the week of E3, there is price reductions in the US at Amazon, Gamestop and Steam until the end of E3.

The Witcher 2 is coming to the Xbox 360, no PS3 version was announced. They have noted that there is no quality compromise, people will have the same experience as the PC users and that it is coming towards the end of the year. They also said they want to improve it to suit the 360 in order to make it the best RPG on the Xbox 360.

They took the time to advertised that they are looking for a PR and Head of Marketing position.

Now they are onto talking about gog.com. They started with noting that they have over 325 DRM classics, more than 40 partners and are bringing back classics from Activision (Police Quest series), Ubisoft (Rayman series) and Atari (Alone in the Dark).

They went onto talk about the sites spring update where they brought in the new downloader, personal messages and various other site improvements. They also said that after they launched the downloader on the 4th of May, they saw a huge surge in people downloading on gog.com.

They started talking about them having a new partner, saying it was down to either Lucasarts or Electronic Arts and they said people should look at the trailer and see if we could figure out  who the new partner is…

And the new Partner is Electronic Arts bringing some EA classics including Dungeon Keeper, Wing Commander: Privateer and Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 all of which are available right now with over 20 new titles coming soon. They say it takes a while between this release and the next release because once they sign the agreement with the partner, they need to test releases, cooperate with the partner, deal with license issues, etc.

They mention System Shock games won’t be available due to licensing issues but they also say, never say never. They might end up getting it up on gog.com someday.

They noted that they started talking with EA about 1 year ago so it has taken a whole year just to sign this agreement, they hope it will spread the good vibes of retro gaming and get people to visit gog.com. They also said they hope this will help get other big publishers to work with them.

And to end this conference, we are given a summary of all the information we have heard from this conference. If you want, you can now also check out the Witcher 2 Xbox 360 trailer on Gametrailers.com.
