Introduction
Hello and welcome to the first of my columns first News Round-up, in these articles, I will be posting news I find around the internet (I’m not official press so I can’t get anything unique which other sites may not have or anything like that) and post my thoughts on the news I post.
Another thing I will say is unless I say otherwise in the introduction, the opening picture is not related to anything in this post and is just something I felt like having as a nice opening picture, it may be related to a game I like (like the one above) or it may be something I felt was cool and wanted to post. Don’t worry, they want be too random, just something I googled and got a picture that way for it.
All further News Round-ups will have a similar layout with an introduction, a conclusion and bolded titles of each article I post. If anyone has any general comments they would like to give me about these articles then feel free to leave a comment.
Halo: Reach release date – 14th of September
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3179451
Now I’ve never been a fan of Halo but I know that quite alot of people are so I thought I would post this link for those interested. For those that have played the multiplayer beta, they know what to expect when it comes out so have fun with it.
Also note in the article that it says that the release date is worldwide except in Japan where it is out a day later. Just saying this here incase you skimmed the article and didn’t notice that and/or weren’t sure if it meant NA, EU or JP release dates.
Killzone 3 screens, details and the release date
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=248114
http://kotaku.com/5546499/
I thought I would lump these two together being that they are both about Killzone 3 and came out near enough the same time or so.
Anyway, I’ve never looked into Killzone before although that might change with this release, afterall I can always do a review on it but… I think I’ll look into the game and what it is about closer to release date (which is just under a year away) and see if it’s worth trying or not. I’ve never played any of the previous Killzone games which is why I’m not jumping at the chance to buy it.
Insomniac goes Multiplatform
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=248222
Now this one interests me greatly as I’m a big fan of their Ratchet and Clank games. Also for any PS3 owners who are worried, even though I forgot to save the link, I do remember seeing something about them telling PS3 owners not to worry and that they won’t abandon the PS3 or something like that so that should calm any PS3 owners who are worrying about this.
New Details and Three Gameplay Videos of Crackdown 2
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3179487
I could never get into the original Crackdown but I did enjoy it somewhat, I just never got into it properly and stopped playing after a few days (although as I said, I did enjoy what I played), I may check this out at some point
Final Fantasy IX on the EU PSN store
No link but anyone can check the EU store to see it for themselves, I felt I just had to put this here as I am a big Final Fantasy fan and even downloaded it as soon as I saw it was on there.
It was made available on the 26th of May for a price of £7.99 and is about 1500MB or so in size.
Sega Announces Sonic Colors for Wii, DS
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3179503
Honestly, I think this will be complete and utter crap, I hated Sonic Unleashed even though I loved the look of it on the trailers. I hated all the Wii Sonic games and the last alright 3D sonic was Sonic heroes (yes I didn’t mind that so much) and the last GREAT 3D Sonic was Sonic Adventure/DX and Adventure 2/Adventure 2: Battle.
I am somewhat interested in Sonic 4 for PSN/XBLA/VC and won’t write it off just yet, any full 3D Sonic games, I’m just writing off as crap until proven otherwise after Sonic Unleashed and the disappointment it brought to me.
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light
http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3179512
Now I’ll be honest, when I saw this, I immediantly thought of the original Final Fantasy which had 4 warriors of light.
Anyway even though I am a big FF fan, I am skeptical of this, but I’ll wait and see how it is when it’s out. That said I don’t know much on this title apart from that article as this is the first time I’ve heard of this game.
Microsoft discards ‘Project Natal’ name
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=248402
I’m posting this mainly because E3 is in a few weeks and this is one of the things I’ll be watching for during the conference (Plugging time: I’ll be posting news from E3 and the press conferences during the 3 days of E3, so make sure to come back and check that out)
I am curious as to what the name will be but we’ll see, I kinda liked Project Natal but we’ll see if it will have a better (or worse) name at E3
Driver heads up Ubisoft E3 conference
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=248677
Now what do we have here? A new Driver game, I’m sure some people will have played Driver before (including myself) so this may be an interesting thing to check out. (again, I’ll be covering this and other things relating to E3 right here on Zero Expectation)
Ubisoft DRM ‘benefits pirates’
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=248830
Now this isn’t exactly related to gaming news but it is relating to games in a way so I thought I would post this and give my thoughts on it.
DRM doesn’t effect piracy AT ALL, or at least DRM the likes of which Ubisoft has. I believe certain games like I think Assassin’s Creed 2 on the PC requires an active internet connection at ALL times. Stuff like this is just bad especially when 1) Some people may want to play on a Laptop that doesn’t have an internet connection, 2) Some people may want to play on a computer that doesn’t have an internet connection or is not connected to the internet due to moving providers, waiting for internet to be added (ie if you have just moved home and have no internet from the get go) or 3) Some peoples internets may screw up (like mine does at times) and therefore need to reboot a router or similar stuff.
I hate piracy for the most part but I do not blame anyone who pirates a game with DRM rescrictions like Ubisoft has. Does anyone remember EAs Spore? And how that had DRM which people got annoyed with? Yes I’m sure you do remember that and remember just how MUCH it was pirated after EA thought DRM would stop that or put a dent in it. Boy were they very wrong.
Also, on another note, did you know that Assassin’s Creed 2 which includes Ubisofts DRM was cracked UNDER 24 hours after it’s release. Now how did the DRM help prevent piracy again?
Conclusion
I hope you all enjoyed this first News Round-up and if anyone has anything to comment on, then please leave a comment.
(not much of a conclusion, I was going to say something but well… I forgot by the time I got to this part… soo yeah)
