Well the Square Enix conference has more or less come and gone now in Japan and during this conference, they announced a sequel to last years Final Fantasy XIII which received a rather mixed reception from fans.
Square Enix states that this sequel will have content that exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect with a newly evolved battle system and a new story that stems from the previous game. They also tease the possibility of future announcements of new features.
The official site is now open on a domain that was registered sometime before the conference. Square Enix has stated that Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be out in Japan in 2011 and Square Enix USA has gone to say that it will be out in the west next winter.
This isn’t the only news that has been announced though, Final Fantasy Agito XIII has been renamed to Final Fantasy Type-0. Director of Type-0 explained that the name change was due to it not having enough in common with the mythos laid out by the original FFXIII.
Final Fantasy Type-0 has also been announced to come out in Summer 2011, it had a new trailer debut at the conference and was announced that it was so big that it had to be put onto two UMDs.
As for Versus XIII, it only got a trailer shown at the conference which was partly voiced, meaning that the voice acting may still be in it’s early stages. No release date or anything else is really known about it yet which makes the FFXIII-2 announcement even more surprising since it may be out first before Versus XIII is released.
Outside of FFXIII related stuff, Kingdom Hearts 3D is now known as Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and it will take full advantage of the 3D features that the Nintendo 3DS has.
Dissidia Duodecim had a new trailer shown off which included seeing Yuna in action and in addition to this new trailer, they announced that they will have a demo for it called “Dissidia 012 Prologus” which can be downloaded from today in Japan for 300 yen.
Everyone who downloads it will be able to unlock a special assist for the full game in the form of Aerith who won’t be playable but can be summoned to your aid.
That is everything from the Square Enix Conference, some interesting stuff here such as Type-0 and the new Versus trailer. I enjoyed FFXIII but it had some serious flaws so we’ll just have to see if XIII-2 addresses those flaws or not.
