Hello and welcome to something that I haven’t abandoned, despite all appearances. December was a bit of a hectic month for me, in terms of lifestyle, and so, I had to make some sacrifices in what I could and couldn’t do, and unfortunately, Nostalgia World went on a temporary hiatus without me actually telling anyone, which is rather good of me. However, as everything has now quietened down a lot, I can hopefully afford to carry on Nostalgia World again. Famous last words and all that, but there we go, hopefully I’ll be able to avoid abandoning this again, and if I do, I should be able to give some notice if it needs to go quiet, unlike the last time.
As this is predominantly about retro games, and as I’m classing retro as everything older than ten years, I can now do a lot of my favourite games from more recent times, such as Devil May Cry, Halo (yes, it is ten years old), and Phantasy Star Online, as well as the older stuff from the 80s and 90s. Yes, I do class PSO as one of my fave games, even if I do hate it at the same time for being massively repetitive and mind-numbingly boring and for causing me to instigate a rule nowadays if I ever play it with friends, of spending no longer than 7 and a half minutes for everyone to run to the shops, buy new stuff and sort out their equipment. But for the first proper online console RPG that boasted 300,000 people online six months after being released, in a time when the internet was ridiculously slow, PSO can’t be beaten. Plus there’s something satisfying about ordering your teammates to kill the monsters whilst you take on those boxes by yourself. But more on that in a future review.
Other titles you may see cropping up in reviews are Gran Turismo 3, Final Fantasy 9, Sonic Adventure 2, GTA 3, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3, and Metal Gear Solid 2. All because they came out in 2001, so I can now review them. In the unlikely event that this is still running in 2021, I can review another GTA and probably get through the entire Halo series in that time, woo. I’m not doing a review this week, because the only really retro game I’ve been playing lately that I’ve not reviewed is Crazy Taxi, and I’m not going to do a review of it, because I’m too lazy to unlock the full game on the Xbox, and the TV that the Dreamcast is supposed to go on doesn’t work, so I can’t play it like that.
So unfortunately, if you were expecting a review, you’re going to be disappointed this week. However, next week, there will be a review up on Thursday as usual, so you’ll have that to look forward to. I’m not entirely sure myself what it’s going to be, so everybody now gets to wait with bated breath to see what I’m going to be reviewing, myself included. Which is going to be fun. Don’t drop dead from holding your breath for a week. Comments have been disabled because of the spambots deciding to go mental, so if you’ve got any comments either now or in the future, either leave them on my Facebook page, for those who have me on there, or on the official ZeroExpectation Facebook page for those who don’t have me on Facebook, or over Twitter at jayrEGVP if you happen to have Twitter. And finally, sorry for the text-heavy post now, there weren’t any pics that I really could have put here.
